Speaker of the Seimas: we encourage and support the reforms in Moldova

At the meeting with Valeriu Frija, Ambassador of Moldova to Lithuania, held on 23 February 2017,Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, noted that Lithuania remained an active supporter of Moldova's participating in the EU Eastern Partnership programme. The Speaker called on Moldova to continue its reforms further and implement the Association Agreement with the European Union.
“We promote and back the reforms in Moldova. Lithuania will continue to provide expert support to this country,” said the Speaker after the meeting.
The EU High Level Advisers’ Mission to Moldova includes, inter alia, five Lithuanian representatives, who offer their advice to Moldovan institutions on banking and security sector reforms, fight against corruption and other matters.
The Speaker of the Seimas noted that the Lithuanian Parliament would encourage and support active involvement of Lithuanian institutions in the EU Twinning projects in Moldova.
The Association Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova entered fully into force on 1 July 2016.
The Speaker of the Seimas congratulated Moldova on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations commemorated this year. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 8 July 1992.
