Speaker of the Seimas congratulated Latvia on Independence Day
Press release, 4 May 2022
On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, and all people of Latvia on National Day, Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, and wished concord and constructive work in daily parliamentary activities.
‘Adopted by the Latvian Supreme Council 32 years ago, on 4 May 1990, the Declaration of the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, acquires a new meaning in the face of the ongoing war in Ukraine today. In the context of the incomprehensible aggression, violations of the norms of international law and the trampling on humanity, the path of Independence that has been taken only reaffirms to us, the Baltic States, the importance of every decision made and the significance of the choice of the direction for our countries. I am confident that we will continue to develop our close parliamentary cooperation, both at bilateral and regional levels, in order to help the countries that are currently at geopolitical crossroads,’ the Speaker of the Seimas wrote in her letter of congratulations.
