Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Latvia on the Day of the Restoration of Independence

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, has congratulated the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia on the Day of the Restoration of Independence.

‘The Declaration on the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, adopted by the Supreme Council of Latvia on 4 May 1990, paved the way not only for freedom and independence but also for the delivery of historical justice. Today, when brutal force is used in the attempts to rewrite the history of Europe, this historical achievement has a particular significance. I am convinced that we will continue making every effort in order to jointly defend democracy, freedom and international law,’ reads the letter of congratulations to Edvards Smiltēns, Speaker of the Saeima.

The Speaker of the Seimas has also conveyed her best wishes of unity, harmony and constructive endeavours in the daily parliamentary activities of the Saeima.
