Speaker of the Seimas extended congratulations on Portugal Day

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated Augusto Santos Silva, President of the Assembleia da República of Portugal, Members of Parliament, and the people of the country on Portugal Day by extending the wishes of every success in overcoming today’s challenges.

In her letter of congratulations, the Speaker of the Seimas stated that Lithuania and Portugal successfully developed their bilateral relations and closely cooperated in the European Union and NATO.

‘In recent years, we have been sharing, as never before, a common aspiration to help Ukraine and its people defend the foundations of the free and democratic world. Portugal is our credible ally equally committed to the fundamental matters of democracy, human rights and security,’ said Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen.

Taking this opportunity, the Speaker of the Seimas also thanked the President of the Assembleia da República of Portugal for participating at the High-Level Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of NATO Member Countries in Vilnius on 1–3 June 2023.
