Gallery of the Defenders of Freedom of Lithuania

The Gallery of the Defenders of Freedom of Lithuania displays exhibitions on the history of the parliamentary tradition and the development of statehood. Open door hours are traditionally organised here on Fridays, so that all residents and guests of the city could see the latest expositions without needing any entry permits.

The said Gallery is also adorned with a commemorative plaque that quotes the text of the oath of the defenders of the Parliament.

The broken window in Building 1 of the Seimas bears traces of the unsuccessful attempt organised on 8 January 1991 by the Lithuanian pro-soviet organisation, Jedinstvo, to overthrow the Parliament elected by the nation.

The interior of Building1 of the Seimas is decorated with the sculpture Akivaras (Mire; bronze, stone, 2002) by sculptor Daliutė Ona Matulaitė.

On 4–8 September 1993, Pope John Paul II visited Lithuania. A commemorative plaque in Building 1 of the Seimas is reminiscent of this historic visit.
