Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs: ‘Our goal is a united community of democracies that provides full support to Ukraine’

Press release, 15 July 2022

Following the meeting of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs on 14 July 2022, Laima Andrikienė, Chair of the Committee, issued the following statement on behalf of the Committee in response to the European Commission’s Guidance on the transport of goods originating in Russia in transit through the Union, which were published on 13 July:

First, there can be no doubt that through its consistent actions in rallying European and transatlantic partners against Russia’s brutal aggression in Ukraine, Lithuania is strongly advocating for further strengthening of sanctions against Russia.

Second: Lithuania, as a committed member of the international community, must see the broader geopolitical context, and our goal is a united community of democracies that provides full support to Ukraine.

And third, our strength in this difficult situation lies in our unity. Russia is seeking to divide the community of democracies, and Lithuania definitely will not help achieve this goal.’
