Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Canada on Canada Day

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated George J. Furey, Speaker of the Canadian Senate; Anthony Rota, Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons; and the people of the country on Canada Day and extended her wishes for good health, every success, unity and peace, which proved extremely fragile in today’s world.

Taking the opportunity, the Speaker of the Seimas welcomed the active bilateral relations between the two countries as well as the successful cooperation within the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and, more recently, the joint support for Ukrainian troops fighting in the war with Russia for the foundations and values of the entire democratic world.

‘I highly appreciate the fact that Canada and Lithuania are like-minded partners defending value-based positions in the difficult circumstances of global threats. While being extremely grateful for Canada’s contribution to strengthening the security of the Baltic States, I believe that we will continue developing a constructive partnership between the Senate and the House of Commons of Canada and the Seimas of Lithuania,’ Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen concluded.
