Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Estonia on the Day of Restoration of Independence

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, congratulated the Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia and its Speaker Jüri Ratas on the Day of Restoration of the Independence of Estonia. She wished for the Riigikogu to work harmoniously and successfully in creating prosperity for the Estonian people.

‘Today’s threats to freedom and democracy call for a re-evaluation of the freedom won 31 years ago and for taking the commitment to help the countries fighting for their freedom and the right to independent decision-making,’ the Speaker wrote in her congratulatory letter.

Mrs Čmilytė-Nielsen also noted the role of a close bilateral and regional parliamentary dialogue in achieving shared objectives. ‘I believe that the meeting of the Speakers of the Nordic and Baltic States (NB8) in Lithuania on 22–24 August will contribute to the achievement of the shared objectives,’ the Speaker noted in her congratulatory letter.
