Speaker of the Seimas: ‘EU enlargement brings prosperity and peace to the European continent’

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, has extended her congratulations on the 19th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership of the European Union. The Speaker of the Seimas is convinced that the war has proved once again that our country had made the right choice by opting for a future in the EU, and that EU enlargement is currently the best way of protecting European values and strengthening collective security.

‘In the recent meeting with Speakers of Parliaments of EU Member States in Prague, we discussed that EU enlargement is now an essential element for successful policies and for strengthening democracy, prosperity and peace on the European continent. And now, one of the most important strategic moves is to support and assist Ukraine, Moldova and other countries that have decided to pursue the path towards European integration,’ says Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen.

According to the Speaker of the Seimas, these countries are now expected to take concrete steps. Being a consistent supporter of European integration, Lithuania is willing to help them move faster and all the way through.
