Speaker of the Seimas congratulates the United States of America on Independence Day

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, has sent a letter of congratulations on behalf of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and on her own behalf to Rep. Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the United States Congress, and Kamala Harris, President of the Senate and Vice-President of the United States of America. On US Independence Day, Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen has conveyed to Members of the Congress and Senate her wishes of every success, unity and peace.

The Speaker of the Seimas has availed herself of the opportunity to thank the United States of America for the unwavering support and assistance to Ukraine, as the war in Ukraine affects the neighbouring countries, which, due to their geopolitical position, feel particularly threatened by Russia, and as the war also has tremendous repercussions worldwide.

Furthermore, in her congratulatory address, Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen has commended the successful cooperation between Lithuania and the United States.

‘Thanks to our common democratic values, we share a similar approach to many issues on the international agenda. In particular, Lithuania appreciates the US position on strengthening the security of our region and is grateful for the US presence on its soil. This constitutes one of the key foundations for strengthening our national security,’ the letter of the Speaker reads.
