Speaker of the Seimas congratulates Japan on National Day

On behalf of the Seimas and on her own behalf, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, has congratulated members of the National Diet of Japan on the Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor and extended her wishes for seamless work for the well-being and prosperity of all the people in the country.

In her letter of congratulations to Fukushiro Nukaga, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Otsuji Hidehisa, President of the House of Councillors, Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen has noted that important steps were taken in the previous year to enhance the inter-parliamentary cooperation between Japan and Lithuania. She has concurrently shared the pleasant recollections of her visit to Japan and the meaningful meetings that were held during her stay. 

‘The Action Plan 2024, approved at the beginning of this year for the implementation of Lithuania’s strategic guidelines for the Indo-Pacific region, provides for the strengthening of the parliamentary dimension. We therefore stand ready to advance the inter-parliamentary dialogue, which is undoubtedly of particular importance for both Japan and Lithuania, nations committed to upholding democracy, human rights and freedoms, and the rules-based international order, especially amidst the current global tensions and challenges,’ the letter reads.
